Front End Web Developer

Remote, UK-based

Contract / Freelance

Who we are looking for

Immediate Start - £300-400 / day
3-6 month contract, renewed on a monthly basis

We’re seeking an experienced contract / freelance Front End Web Developer to join our tight-knit agency team, and help us produce high quality, conversion and UX optimised websites for our varied range of interesting clients.

You’ll be part of our remote cross-functional agency team that includes designers, copywriters and data analysts, and will be responsible for modern, best practice front end development.

Our agency is a small but mighty web design and conversion optimisation studio. Rather than mindlessly churning out code, we work on a consultative, proactive basis, which our clients really value. We’ve been careful to pick clients who appreciate the quality of our work, and our friendly, professional insights.

It will be essential that you have strong and demonstrable experience using modern front end frameworks and build tools, with solid core JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3 skills. You’ll also be comfortable setting up CMS packages and platforms such as Craft CMS and Shopify (our two most used platforms), defining rational content models and integrating your front end templates. You don’t need to be a back end guru, but some knowledge of PHP would be beneficial.

While we don’t expect you to be a fully fledged designer, you must be up to speed with UX principles and have a keen eye for good design

Responsibilities

  • Contribute solutions to client briefs

  • Build website front ends based on both your UX and design ability and in collaboration with visual designs/wireframes

  • Develop well-functioning websites, with a focus on page speed optimisation and cross-browser/device compatibility

  • Set up CMS packages including easy to use and flexible content model design

  • Integrate your front end template code into CMS packages

  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade/maintain your code

  • Set up and use effective build scripts, tooling and CI/CD

  • Create technical documentation, client-facing briefs for approval, and accurate effort estimates for prospective projects

  • Deliver projects within budget and on-time

  • Add creative flair to front end templates, over and above any static designs that may be available

  • Run User Testing on prototypes and live pages

  • Help to instrument, QA and integrate A/B tests using third party JavaScript-based tools

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Front End Web Developer delivering the responsibilities as outlined

  • CMS and cloud platform experience, ideally including Craft CMS and Shopify

  • Detailed understanding of core languages: JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3

  • Familiarity with common stacks and effective development patterns

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Tailwind, Laravel Mix, Webpack, Vue.js, React, Alpine, jQuery, Sass, Typescript

  • Able to extract designs from design tools such as Sketch and Figma

  • Confident creating template prototypes using Invision or other prototyping tools

  • UX skills and a good eye for design

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Organisational skills and time management to meet deadlines

  • An analytical mind

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience with references

  • Ability to work remotely effectively
