Who we are looking for

We’re seeking an experienced Front End Web Developer to join our tight-knit team, helping us produce high quality, conversion and UX optimised websites for our varied range of interesting clients - mainly D2C brands on Shopify.

You’ll be part of our cross-functional agency team that includes designers, copywriters and data analysts, and will be responsible for modern, best practice front end development.

While we don’t expect you to be a fully-fledged designer, you must be up to speed with UX principles and have a keen eye for good design and be capable of delivering quality websites end-to-end.

Got experience with Shopify? That'll be a plus, but if not then we'll help you get up to speed on the platform.

Who you'll be working with

Our agency is a small but mighty web design and conversion optimisation studio. Rather than mindlessly churning out code, we work on a consultative, proactive basis, which our clients really value. We’ve been careful to pick interesting clients who appreciate the quality of our work, and our friendly, professional insights.

You'll work closely with our experienced founder, Matthew. A web developer himself, he'll be speaking your language and will help to build your skills in a positive and supportive way, while delivering value for our clients.

What you'll be working on

You'll be working mainly with our retained consultancy clients, where we help guide what should be done on their websites to maximise engagement and online sales. These range from website tweaks to full refreshes and site builds.

Our clients are mainly D2C brands who sell their own unique and interesting product lines online with Shopify. Three of which have featured on Dragon's Den and another led by a well-known entrepreneur and TV personality.

Plastic-free biodegradable chewing gum, 100% baked cheese super tasty snacks, award-winning non-alcoholic spirits, amazing skin healing creams, eyewear brands - just a sample from our client list.

With several clients having been featured on Dragon's Den, another led by a well-known TV personality and others seeing over 1000% growth year on year, there's plenty of interesting work to be sinking your teeth into.

Work will mainly be on Shopify or Shopify Plus, though we do have some projects on the Craft CMS platform, too.

You'll be responsible for...

  • Building complete website front ends based on your technical and design capabilities

  • Making improvements to existing sites

  • Developing well-functioning pages and flows, with a focus on great UX, page speed optimisation and browser/device compatibility

  • Setting up and using CMS packages including intuitive and flexible content model design

  • Troubleshooting, debugging and upgrading/maintaining your code

  • Launching websites and ongoing website maintenance

  • Producing technical documentation and accurate effort estimates for prospective projects

  • Adding creative flair to front end templates, over and above any static designs that may be available

  • Building custom front end flows in JavaScript frameworks like Vue or React

  • On occasion, helping to set up and run User Testing and A/B tests using JavaScript tools

You must have...

  • Proven recent experience as a Front End Web Developer delivering the responsibilities as outlined

  • CMS and cloud platform experience

  • Extensive understanding of core languages and markup: JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Tailwind, jQuery, Alpine, Vue, React, SCSS

  • A solid grasp of build tools and package managers (such as Laravel Mix, Webpack, Node, Composer)

  • Comfortable working with and setting up Git-based push-to-deploy systems

  • Ability to faithfully extract designs from design tools such as Sketch and Figma

  • UX skills and a good eye for design

  • A willingness to work flexibly, splitting time between home and office

  • Keen to contribute ideas and improvements that add value, rather than just working to spec

  • References we can take up
